Community Arts Programme

Jai Jashn Dance is Jaivant Patel Company’s award winning community dance programme.

In 2017, Jai Jashn Dance became a recipient of The Queen's Golden Jubilee Award for Voluntary Service.

CORE COMMUNITY CLASS PROGRAMME

Jai Jashn Dance’s mission statement is ‘to explore the dance heritage of India, positively demonstrating and promoting its diversity.’ 

The focus of Jai Jashn Dance is intergenerational and all are welcome to participate regardless of age, gender, ability, sexual orientation and social or cultural background.

Performance opportunities will be available where appropriate.

Weekly open community Bollywood-based cultural classes, are hosted on Thursday evenings at The Bob Jones Community Hub (Bromley Street, Wolverhampton, WV2 3AS), from 6 to 7:30pm:

The structure will work in a year of 3 terms:

2020:

• Term 1: Thursday 9th January to Thursday 30th April 2020. 
• Term 2: Thursday 7th May to Thursday 27th August 2020.
• Term 3: Thursday 3rd September to Thursday 17th December 2020.

2019:

• Term 1: Thursday 10th January to Thursday 25th April 2019. 
• Term 2: Thursday 2nd May to Thursday 29th August 2019.
• Term 3: Thursday 5th September to Thursday 19th December 2019.

2018:

• Term 1: Thursday 4th January to Thursday 26th April 2018. 
• Term 2: Thursday 3th May to Thursday 30th August 2018.
• Term 3: Thursday 6th September to Thursday 20th December 2018.

Semi-Classical Bollywood (Thursday 9th May to Thursday 22nd August 2019, 7:30 to 8:30pm)

Following successful pilot in Spring 2019, Jai Jashn Dance will be continuing to deliver 2 short courses in Semi-Classical Bollywood:

  • An Eight-Week course starting 9th May to 27th June 2019.

  • An Eight-Week course starting 4th July to 22nd August 2019.

This intergenerational focused class. The ideal age for participation is 6+.

'Semi-Classical' Bollywood will continue to be held at The Bob Jones Community Hub (Bromley Street, Wolverhampton, WV2 3AS) from 7:30 to 8:30pm.

Kathak for Beginners (Thursday 6th September to Thursday 20th December 2018, 7:30 to 8:30pm)

In addition to the established Bollywood-based cultural classes, Jai Jashn Dance is keen to find ways to diversify the community class programme is continues to deliver.

From 26th July to 30th August 2018, Jai Jashn Dance developed a pilot six week course in 'Kathak For Beginners' from 7 to 8pm..

Due to the demand and success of this pilot, Jai Jashn Dance is pleased to announce the introduction of a 16 week full term of 'Kathak for Beginners', starting on Thursday 6th September to Thursday 20th December 2018 from 7:30 to 8:30pm.

This intergenerational focused class, using technique developed by global Kathak exponent Nahid Siddiqui.

Minimum age for participation is 6+.

'Kathak For Beginners' will continue to be held at The Bob Jones Community Hub (Bromley Street, Wolverhampton, WV2 3AS).
